Day three of Australia consisted of an early morning jog with Jack and Mitch. We ran to the city center and walked around, exploring side streets and buildings. We came across the University of Melbourne campus which is downtown, then returned to our abode. We shipped out for an unknown destination with our professors, which consisted of trolley rides, two trains, and a bus, to reach our destination of Dandenong Ranges National Park, where the Kokoda Track is located. This walk is a memorial to Australian soldiers who fought the Japanese in Papua New Guinea during World War II. The thick and ancient foliage closely represents the 96 km trail that soldiers fought in, and captures the hostile, camouflaging environment they faced. Luckily, the memorial walk paled in comparison at 1,000 steps (which was definitely not easy, we were sweating and panting to say the least). We returned to the valley and journeyed back, made dinner, and did some photography and thesis work.
